Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design
Art Education
Our Art Education program is based on a simple concept: the best artists are the best art teachers.
As an Art Education major, you’ll choose painting, illustration or sculpture as an area of specialization. While your technical skills and personal vision develop, you will also learn how to effectively teach others to understand and make art.
Our classes are led by practicing or former elementary and high school art teachers who are happy to share their personal experiences with you. Your coursework will include a total of 800 hours spent in classrooms throughout the Denver area to complete teaching apprenticeship.
All Art Education students learn about:
- curriculum creation
- the psychology of creativity
- classroom management
- student evaluation and performance standards
- leadership and professional conduct
By the time you graduate you will have the artistic insight needed to participate as a world class fine artist, the certification required to teach in any K-12 school in Colorado, and the skills needed to teach anywhere in the country.
Best of all, you’ll be a leader in the arts – an advocate for art as a way to promote social change.
