Art Education + Illustration
Class of 2011
Hometown: Littleton, CO

Why did you choose to attend RMCAD?

I wanted a more direct path to a career that was very specific. I had heard good things about the school before I came, and it's been a great fit so far.

What has been your favorite class so far and why?

I really enjoyed my Basic Illustration class because we learned a lot about the process of making art professionally. Plus Hugh (Alexander) is awesome.

Which Liberal Studies or Foundations classes did you find the most surprising or useful?

I learned a lot in my figure drawing class and still use what I learned. We were taught basic anatomy and then had to apply it in our figure drawings. This was very helpful in all my other figure classes.

Tell us about a favorite project you've worked on.

In Basic Illustration, our first assignment was to illustrate a phrase that was somewhat vague. It left a lot of room for interpretation. I thought the best part of the assignment was seeing all the cool ideas everyone was coming up with.

How has RMCAD prepared you for what you want to do when you graduate?

I'd like to teach. The program here definitely prepares you for this as well as being a professional artist.

How would you describe the students who attend RMCAD?

It's nice to know that as different as everyone is here, we also share a common interest in going to school for art.

What do you like about living in Denver/Colorado?

Denver is the coolest little big city—it has a lot of character. All four seasons, friendly people, good food…that's really all I need.

How has your life changed since enrolling at RMCAD?

I have made a lot of new friends and they are all great artists.

What kinds of things do you do when you're not attending classes?

I work a lot and do homework. When I do have free time, I hang out with friends and ride my bicycle.

What would you want a prospective student to know about RMCAD?

I came from a large state school. When I transferred, I was shocked to see how small the school was. Now that I've been here for a bit, I realize that having less people in my classes is an advantage.
