Community Spotlight on RMCAD
We’re all well aware of just how special RMCAD is, but it’s always nice to hear that members of the community agree. And that’s just what happened on June 14 when Lakewood Mayor Bob Murphy kicked off his re-election campaign on our campus.
On a beautiful, sunny afternoon, a crowd gathered in and around the historic Rotunda Building and was treated to food, drinks and live bluegrass music. Attendees included several elected city officials and Lakewood residents, as well as RMCAD students, faculty and staff. In his welcome address, RMCAD Board of Directors member Jim Schoemer thanked the mayor and the city of Lakewood for their tireless support in helping our College achieve its goals.
Mayor Murphy, who has proven to be very education-oriented throughout his tenure, stated that he has always loved RMCAD for “infusing creativity and vitality into Northwest Lakewood.” He specifically mentioned our involvement in the development of the new Lamar Arts District, officially dubbed 40 West, saying that RMCAD plays a huge role in bringing “a whole new energy to this historic quarter of Colfax.”
Among his many accomplishments since being elected in 2007, Murphy is especially proud of the fact that his office has been able to increase the city’s General Fund reserves, lower taxes and reduce crime. They have also added jobs, invested in education initiatives, and brought the light rail system to our neck of the woods.
As guests mingled before and after the reception, many were overheard commenting on the historic charm of our campus and artistic value of our community.
Murphy was thrilled to see so many people in attendance that care about and support Lakewood. He said he looks forward to the next four years and continuing his mission to “move Lakewood forward as the place of choice to, work, and play.”
