This sophomore-level course provides a survey of the history of the built environment based upon architecture and interiors from antiquity through the 20th century. Students investigate and document period design within the context of the cultural, sociological, and technological issues of each era including interior and exterior architectural elements, furniture, design motifs and ornamentation. Upon successful completion of the course, students will have the ability to identify and evaluate the elements of architecture and interiors for each period studied, and apply those skills to period renovation, restoration, or to reinterpret historical design elements for current use. Prerequisites: AH 1100 Art + Design History I: Ancient to Medieval
