November 7, 2013, 7:00 p.m., doors open at 6:30
Mary Harris Auditorium
The Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer Program at RMCAD is pleased to present Micah White as the second visitor and lecturer in the Program’s Interventions series. Micah White’s lecture titled The Future of Protest, takes place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Mary Harris Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.
About the Lecturer: Micah White is a former editor of Adbusters magazine and co-created the international meme Occupy Wall Street, which called for protests of social and economic inequality. Influenced by philosophy, history, ecology, the practice of culture jamming, and technological innovations, White inspires seemingly minor contributors to harness the power of information systems and participate in the creation and control of culture.
About the Lecture: White’s lecture The Future of Protest will critically evaluate Occupy Wall Street and explore the ways visual culture plays an important role in social change. White will investigate the innovative role of the artist and designer in the changing environment of cultural and political civil engagement. Overall there is urgency and optimism in his call for the creative re-imagination of the world.
About the VASD Program Series: RMCAD’s Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer Program explores the concept of Interventions in a series of public lectures from Fall 2013 through April 2014. These lectures examine the possibilities and various ways interventions exist in the cultural realm as well as how they function in the current art and design discourse. Interventions rupture systems or generate moments of directional change offering an occasion for reflection and opportunities to transform the construct of the world around us. Historically, art and design interventions have run concurrently and sometimes led new ways of seeing the world.
All VASD lectures are free and open to the public. However, an RSVP is highly recommended due to limited seating. Click here to RSVP.
