What is your favorite thing about teaching at RMCAD?
The synergy created by an all-art school combined with dedicated teachers and energetic students. It is a great place to work, teach and learn.
What is your favorite class or project to teach and why?
Concept Development. The understanding of conceptual design is the difference between being a professional interior designer and a professional shopper.
Knowing what you know now, what’s the one piece of advice you would give to your college-aged self?
Be bold, have fun, take risks, break the rules, and risk the "grand failure" for the opportunity to learn. Work hard, set your standards high, and don't compromise when you know in your heart that you are on to something.
What prominent artist, scholar or designer in your field do you admire the most, and why?
Frank Gehry, because he shows the world that there is no box to think outside.
What are your biggest influences?
Pablo Picasso's "Guernica," Stonehenge, the Guggenheim Bilbao, and The Big Lebowski.Artist/teaching statement:
Teaching is never answering a question the same way twice.
Anything else?
The Dude abides.
