Galleries Overview

Galleries, both formal and informal, are scattered throughout campus. Featuring year-round exhibitions from national and international artists, as well as students, faculty, and alumni. These spaces provide space for critical examination of artworks to the RMCAD community and public.

In addition to the three main galleries – Philip J. Steele, Rude and Alumni – the Rotunda Pavilion and lobbies of classroom buildings are frequently used for larger exhibitions and special events. The Student Gallery, located in the EPC Building, is reserved for the work of current students and operated by a student committee.

RMCAD is proud of the fact that we have our very own Gallery Director, Cortney Lane Stell. Born and raised in Colorado, Cortney curates, conceives, and organizes more than 24 contemporary art exhibitions annually. Her passions include light and space art, site-specific installations, as well as performance and new media. Recent exhibitions include American Ectoplasm, a solo show by Baltimore-based artist Jimmy Joe Roche, and Works in Passage, another solo show by Italian sculptor Maria Cristina Carlini. Cortney recently published a chapter in Constantin Brancusi: In the XXI Century New Studies, a book published by Verso L’Arte that focuses on the Romanian sculptor influence on American public sculpture.

This summer, Cortney will be participating in ICI's Curatorial Intensive, a highly competitive program in New York City featuring a concentrated schedule of seminars, tutorials and guest lectures by leading artists, curators, critics, directors, and academics. She is additionally participating in the Master's/PhD program in Switzerland at The European Graduate School.

The Philip J. Steele, Rude and Alumni Galleries accept exhibition and other project proposals on an ongoing basis. Decisions are made up to two years in advance. Click here for submission guidelines.
