bARTer collective: [teaser-text]

The bARTer collective is a group of artists, designers, educators, dreamers and thought-provokers that believe in reimagining the contemporary notion of currency exchange. They host a mobile exchange space in which citizens can become actively involved in their community by swapping objects, services, thoughts and ideas. They have performed at numerous venues across Denver and participated in the inaugural Biennial of the Americas, as well as the Version Festival in Chicago.

In Hermeneutikon (from the Greek words for "translate" and "image"), the small installation rooms of the Alumni Gallery are converted into a reading library where visitors can peruse archives of the many projects that bARTer has organized. Part performance art and part collection of art objects, this exhibition is far from being a static image in a flat state of translation. Rather it opens the space for further inquiry and a rich community experience. It is an individual reflection on a collective action, fraught with all the perils of memory and blessed with the limitless gifts of interpretation.
