Roger Herman Exhibition
Paintings and Block Prints
The Philip J. Steele Gallery is honored to exhibit paintings and woodcuts by Roger Herman. The West gallery will feature large scale paintings from the 1980s to present and the east gallery will show large scale wood block prints from the past ten years. The exhibition opens to the public on Friday, May 15 with a reception from 6 – 9pm.
Born in 1947 in the Saarland, Germany, Roger Herman studied at the Kunstakademie in Karlsruhe from 1972 to 1976. He came to San Francisco, California in 1976 on a fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and had remained in the States since then. Starting in 1981, he has lived and worked in Los Angles. In 1985 he was appointed to the painting faculty of the school of art at the University of California at Los Angeles.
Herman has exhibited in many national museums including the National Gallery of art in Washington DC, P.S.1 in New York, and the Walker Art Museum in Philadelphia. He is also the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant in Painting. Visit Herman's site at www.rogerherman-art.com.
