Don't Ask, Can't Tell
My artwork engages a system of acquisition and accumulation, of sorting and retrieving. I release images from their prescribed archives and reinvent and recontextualize them in my personal storehouse of art materials.I use found imagery in all my work because I’m interested in why things are saved and the role we play as editors and curators of our history and how the artifacts, objects and images we choose to accumulate color and shape the way we see ourselves.
Don’t Ask, Can’t Tell began with two unique bodies of found photographs and my challenge to bridge the gap between them with additional imagery and materials. By incorporating and manipulating both found video footage and live video, a new and layered paradigm asks the viewer to form relationships and question truth and authorship.
Reception: October 2 6-9pm.
