Mary-Ann Kokoska
Increasing Cloud is a drawing installation from fine artist and CSU professor Mary-Ann Kokoska.
The exhibition features two works created in response to the space and the view through the large arched window in the Rude Gallery. While they are not necessarily site-specific, they can be considered site-sensitive.
From the Artist's Statement:
"My recent art work and creative research focuses on currents of air in our atmosphere - specifically the appearance, movement and scientific significance of clouds. These works are manifested in the form of large wall size drawings that often take the form of an installation collage. Clouds are nature’s way of drawing in the sky, and reflect the physics of what is going on above us. In these drawings I call attention to their beauty and their power. The latter in particular interests me as awareness and concerns over climate change escalate. High levels of pollutants that are expelled into the atmosphere as a consequence of our industrialized society have resulted in altered cloud formations in some instances. Now more than ever it is crucial that public awareness and sustained thought is devoted to ensuring the climatic future of our planet, from the scientific as well as the artistic community."
