Interior Design Faculty

All well-respected and top-notch interior designers in their own rights, our Interior Design faculty brings a wide range of experiences to the classroom. The projects they’ve worked on encompass a large part of the industry; from commercial projects to residential interiors and projects that specialize in the concerns of sustainable design. Our instructors know the industry inside and out.

    With over twenty years of professional experience in commercial and residential design, she actively advocates the advancement of the profession through the maintenance of rigorous educational and professional standards.

    Lauren specializes in design pedagogy and curriculum, lighting design, sustainability, and environmental psychology.

    She is in the process of co-authoring a textbook on sustainable design education, and has presented nationally and internationally on a variety of subjects.

  • Brandy von Kaenel

    Brandy's current academic research is in sustainable design and historic preservation. In addition to teaching at RMCAD, Brandy owns and manages a design consulting business. Formerly, she has worked for architectural firms in Denver focusing on skilled nursing, assisted living, educational, multifamily, and high-end residential design projects.

    Brandy is an active student member of the the American Institute of Architects (AIAS), the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), and certified through NCIDQ (National Council of Interior Design Qualification). She recently obtained accreditation in LEED for New Construction.

    Brook has worked for several award winning design firms, gaining both national and international experience. She is a partner in studio at 9000 feet, LLC, a full service design studio. Areas of specialization include:

  • Daniel F. Bohlen

    Dan has eleven years experience teaching college level Interior Design and Art while continuing his career as a commercial and residential designer, architectural illustrator and real estate developer.

    He has been an Architectural and Interior Design consultant for Denver Mayor’s Office of Economic Development (MOED) and the Colorado Center for Community Development.

    He is currently a consultant for Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe and an associate with Spector and Associates Architecture.

  • Debbie Hindman

    Debbie is a LEED Accredited Professional. In addition to teaching at RMCAD, Debbie is the Marketing Director for Associates III Interior Design. She leads the firms’ business development and marketing activities, and has been with the firm for 27 years.

    In her research, Debbie has focused on finding responsible materials for residential interior finishes and furnishings. Between 1994-2004 she was a researcher and co-editor for 4 editions of the Sustainable Design Resource Guide for Colorado & the Western Mountain Region, an AIA COTE/ADPSR publication. She is editor and co-author of Turning Green (ASID, 2003) an account of Associates III’s story embracing green principles published and made available to ASID members nationwide in 2003; she is also co-author of Sustainable Residential Interiors (Wiley & Sons, 2007), the inspiring resource book which earned the Joel Polsky Prize from the ASID Educational Foundation in 2008 for its innovative subject matter and comprehensive coverage of responsible design in homes.

    Past president of SMPS Colorado, member of ADPSR, AIA COTE and USGBC, Debbie speaks regularly on the subject of sustainable design, and Associates III is recognized as one of the country’s foremost experts in green residential design.

  • Gina Heumann

    As an educator, Gina seeks to inspire her students and share her passion for interior design, lighting, and architecture. She has been a lighting designer for major projects at Chateau Theatres, Northfield Hospital, Pentair Executive Offices, and Eden Prairie Center, all in Minnesota.

    Gina received the 2000 and 2001 Illuminating Engineering Society of North America Regional Service Award and the IESNA International Illumination Design Award 1999-2003. She is published in "Bright Ideas," EB Quarterly, Summer 1999; "Regional Voices," LD+A, 1999, 2000; and "Out to Lunch," LD+A, 1998. She holds NCQLP Lighting Certification and an IESNA Certificate of Technical Knowledge.

  • Julie Stewart-Pollack

    Her work focuses on understanding the human need for nature (Biophilia) as a rationale for the conservation of natural environments and as a premise for the design of the built environment.

    She founded RMCAD's Green Design area of emphasis.

    She has written numerous design theory and application articles for national and regional design publications, is a lecturer to the professional architecture and design community on sustainable design, and is a consultant to international, national, and regional architectural and design firms. She lectures about a variety of issues related to green/sustainable design.

    She is author of the book Designing for Privacy and Related Needs.

    Kelly is the owner of Context Designs, LLC specializing in green commercial and residential design projects. She is an Allied Member of ASID, a member of USGBC and the Boulder Green Building Guild.

  • Lynn Williamson

    Lynn worked in broadcasting sales and operations until 1988 when she joined the new frontier of cellular mobile telecommunications work at Iridium, LLC. There she developed and launched a global customer care solution for a complex telecommunications device, supporting 13 languages 24/7 in three locations: Sydney, Rotterdam, and Orlando.

    Lynn is the founder of StudioMetro, LLC, a small residential interior design studio. She is Communications Director for ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Colorado Chapter, and sits on he board of the Women's Crisis and Family Outreach Center. Her research focuses on the impact of the built environment on creativity.

    Ms. Naillon is a principle of D + N Design specializing in commercial tenant finish projects. She has been actively involved in project management for large scale commercial design projects since achieving her undergraduate degree. Her areas of specialty include:
