In order to create interiors that support the growing and diverse needs human beings have of their environments, it is essential that interior design students acquire and develop an understanding of the dynamic relationship between people and environments.

In RMCAD's Interior Design programs, you'll learn the theories and skills necessary for professional practice from faculty who are design professionals and educators. Our program prepares students to contribute to society as skilled, ethical, environmentally responsible professional designers who are committed to improving the health, safety and welfare of the public. We approach interior design as an extension of the arts while being grounded in the social and natural sciences of psychology, sociology, anthropology, ecology and biology.

    Program subject highlights include:
  • manual drafting + computer aided design (CAD)
  • space planning
  • interior materials + systems
  • environmental + human behavior
  • lighting design
  • construction documents + contracts
  • business practices
  • senior-year internship

RMCAD also offers a unique program of study through our Green Design Area of Specialization. The Green Design Area of Specialization provides an in-depth exploration of the methods, processes and principles of green design and sustainability.

When you graduate with an Interior Design degree, you'll be prepared to work as a skilled, ethical, environmentally-responsible professional designer committed to improving the health, safety and welfare of the public while embracing your own vision and creativity.
