RMCAD Team Take 1st at IIDA’s Prêt-a-Porter Competition
A team of students—along with their faculty advisor—have won the top prize in the International Interior Design Association’s annual fashion show. The Prêt-a-Porter event tasks competitors with creating a runway-ready look using interior design specific materials and drew 39 entries this year.
The winners include Elitza Rusinova (FA), Shanna Franceschini (ID), Tina Kivalu (ID), Jenelle Cheng (ID), and Ashleigh Deffert (ID), led by Foundation Studies teacher Sandy Caes. The team was paired with upholstery designer Stacy Garcia and created the winning garment (shown above) from her line of fabrics including chenille used for the skirt fringe and Eco linen patterns printed on a recycled polyester fabric.
The final look, entitled "Global Kaleidoscope" also included jewelry made with pieces of fabric and resin. Garcia was so impressed with the piece that she has asked to display it in her New York City showroom later this year.
