Luke Shiner Scholarship

RMCAD is proud to announce the Luke Shiner Scholarship. In honor of Luke, whose untimely passing came shortly before he was to begin as a RMCAD student in the fall of 2012, his family has generously funded this scholarship, which covers the cost of a full GearBox for an incoming transfer student in the Animation or Illustration departments.

Luke Shiner was committed to pursuing a future in illustration, but wasn’t in a financial position to attend RMCAD for four years. So he earned his associate’s degree at a community college, and planned to transfer into RMCAD to complete his bachelor’s degree. His passion was evident in his artist’s statement in which he said, “For myself and others, I create art, the splash of creativity needed to make the world a more vital and interesting place. In adding this livening bit of uniqueness and originality to the world, I get a great sense of satisfaction, and a strong sense of purpose to boot.”

To honor Luke’s commitment to complete his education, this scholarship covers the total cost of the GearBox (computer, supporting hardware, and all software) for one student who has completed an associate’s degree at community college and plans to enroll at RMCAD as a full-time, on-campus student in the Illustration or Animation departments.

To be considered for the scholarship, students must submit all application materials along with an essay (no more than a single page in length) on the topic of your journey from initial inspiration to enrolling at RMCAD. The Shiner family will review all essays and choose one scholarship recipient from each of the 2013 terms (Spring, Summer and Fall).
