This course is an in-depth study of surface materials, the industries that produce them and their integral relationship to interior design. Students investigate appropriate conventional and sustainable material choices for use in non-structural applications and examine the process of selecting and specifying appropriate materials for different interior elements. Upon successful completion of this course, students will able to recognize, categorize and evaluate different surfacing materials to create aesthetic and functional designs appropriate for residential and commercial interiors that protect health, safety and welfare.
