Sandy Ceas, Silent Surveillance Exhibition
Rude GalleryView EventWhat: Exhibition opening reception for Sandy Ceas, Silent Surveillance Where: Rude Gallery, campus of Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design When: Thursday, May 16, 2013, 6:00-9:00 p.m. RMCAD is pleased to celebrate the opening of professor Sandy Ceas’ exhibition Silent Surveillance. The reception will be held Thursday, May 16, 2013, 6:00-9:00 p.m. in RMCAD’s Rude Gallery. The exhibition showcases photographs taken in Morocco in 2012. Ceas’ installation is comprised of photos and video taken during her residency in Morocco in 2012. Representing the guardian huts Ceas encountered during her travels, a doorway mimicking the small security structures frames the gallery entrance and acts as a passageway into the artist’s installation. In describing the exhibition Ceas explains, “I walked, gathered and blessed; silently surveying people and place; upcycling and gifting in a nomadic trance.” Sandra Jean Ceas, is a practicing multi-genre artist who specializes in public installations and interventions. She holds an AAS in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, BFA in Fine Arts/Sculpture from RMCAD, MA in Arts + Humanities from the University of Denver and a MFA in Fine Arts/ New Genres from San Francisco Art Institute. Her work as been displayed internationally and includes a variety of cultural art projects. Ceas is involved in research aimed raising art to a level of cultural intervention in a globalized world. She has written and lectured at various international organizations on the power of art in oppressive situations such as war, disability and religion. Ceas has been teaching studio arts, philosophy and psychology at the college-level for more than thirty years. The Rude Gallery is located at the top of the stairs in the Rude Building. Steele Gallery May 16 - July 18, 2013 Opening Reception: May 16th, 6-9p.m. The Exhibition: IT WILL NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU is the first American exhibition of French artist, AMANDE IN. This show centers on two performative works that involve the transition of materials and space in relation to viewer’s perception. In this exhibition the immaterial and material coalesce with the sensual and imagined. The real and unreal, the present and absent collide in exhibition form. The Artist: Born in 1981 in Les Lilas, France, Amande In works between Paris and Prague. She attended École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Since graduating, she has been nominated for residencies that include Karlin Studios in Prague and VIR: ViaFarini In Residence in Milan. In 2010, she was a guest professor and artist in residence at the School of Art of the Australian National University, which held a solo exhibition of her works. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Futura, Prague; Museo de la Ciudad, Quito; Le Corbusier Museum, Poissy; Tranzit, Bratislava; galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris; galerie Maeght, Paris; Monitor, Roma and Seventeen gallery, London, among others.

Water Tower Art + Craft Market

On Saturday, July 13 from 10 am – 2 pm, RMCAD faculty, staff, students and alumni will join local artists to sell their handmade wares on campus. Local bands will provide entertainment, while an eclectic selection of food vendors offer lunch and snacks. Demonstrations from a variety of RMCAD departments will also be offed. RMCAD faculty, staff, students and graduates can register for a table at the festival for no cost. Booth registration for local artists is available for $30. Click here for more information.

2013 Assessment in the Arts Conference: A Spectrum of Possibilities
View EventThe Assessment in the Arts Conference (AAC) is for faculty and administrators from both higher education and K-12 institutions who are interested in learning from colleagues, gaining perspective, developing their own program and working knowledge of assessment, to have an opportunity to present, and network with other creative discipline professionals. The theme for the 2013 conference is “A Spectrum of Possibilities,” inspiring forward thinking and development of the assessment of student learning, programs/degrees, institutions, and other aspects of assessment of art or design in academia. The keynote address will be given by Meredith Davis, PhD, from North Carolina State University. This conference is unique because it offers a platform for promoting effective art assessment approaches and practices, going deeper into specialty assessment focuses, and exploring new ideas and theories. K-12 Art Educator Summer Seminar + 2013 Assessment in the Arts Conference This "bundled" option offers the Art Educator an opportunity to learn Continuing Education Credits while having a lot of creative fun. From July 14-July 17th you will be challenged to identify a theme to center the remaining workshops around through hands on project driven exercises. The 2013 Assessment in the Arts Conference, hosted by RMCAD is being held from July 17-20th and if you enroll in this optional track of the K-12 Art Educator Summer Seminar you will spend the remainder of the week focused on this year's topic A Spectrum of Possibilities. Join RMCAD at the Cause Related Poster Show
Off-CampusView EventRMCAD invites you to attend the Cause Related poster show. This event features posters from some of the country’s best-known designers, Milton Glaser. Attendees can purchase posters through a silent auction. All proceeds benefit the Giving Voice project, a program that empowers teens with disabilities to share an important issue with the community. Cause Related will open Friday, July 19 at the VSA Access Gallery and run through August. The Giving Voice program matches graphic designers and teen artists with disabilities for a multi-session poster design and mentoring workshop. Designers help teens convey issue-related messages that they value. The partnership culminates in a gallery exhibition. RMCAD has long supported the efforts of AIGA’s student chapter and encourages members of the RMCAD community to attend this exciting event. Click here for more information.

RMCAD to Host 2013 National Portfolio Day
RMCADView EventOn September 28, 2013, RMCAD will continue tradition by hosting National Portfolio Day (NPD) on its campus. At this event, area students have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the college to discuss their artwork, ask questions and learn about the programs offered at RMCAD.
