RMCAD takes the issue of campus safety very seriously and we're proud to maintain a very safe, intimate campus environment. However, all students are encouraged to be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others. Information about crime prevention, safety and security information is distributed at New Student Orientation. Emergency call boxes which connect to the College's 24-hour facilities staff and to the Lakewood Police Department, are scattered throughout campus. Students can also request an escort to their vehicle during evening hours. The Student Activities Office regularly hosts programs designed to raise student awareness of personal safety and health.
In Compliance with Public Law 10–542, the Federal Campus Security Act, the following information is made available to all students, staff or interested persons:

There are four emergency call boxes located on campus that connect directly to the Lakewood Police (via a 911 call). The call boxes are located:
in the student parking lot
in the staff and faculty parking lot
behind the Rotunda building
behind the boiler house

Crime Prevention
Crime prevention, safety and security information is distributed at new student orientation, employee orientation, faculty meetings, and student meetings. In the event of a major incident, announcements may be distributed through the College’s email system, telephone paging system, and bulletins may be posted in classrooms and administrative buildings. Students and employees are encouraged to be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others.
Emergency Response and Evacuation Procedures
Emergency Response and Evacuation Procedures
Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design will make every effort to immediately notify the campus community upon the confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or employees on campus. Notification may be delivered via phone/intercom, email, or Short Messaging System (SMS), also known as TXT messaging. The College may send emergency alerts via the SMS emergency alert system in a variety of emergency situations. The College reserves the right to determine which emergency situations call for emergency SMS alerts. The College is unable to guarantee the successful delivery of any messages to any individual recipient, nor does receipt of any message guarantee life safety in the event of an emergency. Participation in the SMS emergency alert system is voluntary and requires registration. Information about how to register for the SMS emergency alert system is disseminated regularly to the campus community via email.
Members of the Executive Committee and the College’s Safety Officer are authorized to initiate and send emergency alert communications. Once an emergency has been reported to the College, the Lakewood Police Department will be notified and emergency notifications may be initiated, taking into account the safety of the community and considering if a notification may compromise efforts to assist victims or to contain, respond to, or otherwise mitigate the emergency.
The College will test the emergency notification system and related action a minimum of once a year, in conjunction with the Lakewood Police Department. Following tests of the emergency notification response, the Safety Officer will de-brief with all parties directly involved in the emergency notification and action procedure. Results and notes will be maintained by the College’s Safety Officer.

Sexual Harassment or Assault of Students
Sexual Harassment or Assault of Students
Sexual harassment and/or forcible or non-forcible sex offenses are prohibited by state and federal law and by the policy of Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. The College will not tolerate such conduct. In cases of behavior that violates this policy, it is the intent of the College to take whatever action is necessary to prevent, correct and if necessary, discipline, to the extent of student dismissal or dismissal from the employment. The College makes students aware of these issues through the new student orientation program, Student Handbook, and educational programs.
Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment when:
Submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly as a term or condition of an individual’s employment or educational advancement.
Submission to or rejection of such conduct, by an individual, is used as the basis for academic or employment decision making that affects the individual; or such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with that individual’s academic or professional performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive working, educational or living environment.
In cases of a forcible or non-forcible sexual offense, students are advised to seek medical attention immediately, to keep any physical evidence in case the individual wishes to prove criminal sexual assault. Students are also advised to obtain counseling support from campus or community resources.
A student may contact any of the following to report and receive advice/counsel:
Dean of Students
Counseling Office
Human Resources
Students who report cases of sexual harassment or assault will be provided with:
Campus and community resources for assistance
Options regarding how to file a report to campus authorities
Options available to notify proper law enforcement agencies
Options available to change their academic schedule
Both the accuser and the accused are entitled to have advisors present during disciplinary proceeding, and will be informed of the outcome of any campus disciplinary proceeding alleging sexual assault or harassment.
The “Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act” requires convicted sex offenders currently required to register under state law to now also disclose their association with institutions of higher education when applicable. Specifically affected are those registered sex offenders who attend, are employed by, or volunteer at institutions of post-secondary education. The Colorado Department of Public Safety (CBI) website for the Colorado Sex Offender Registry link is: cdpsweb.state.co.us .
A complete description of the College’s discipline process can be found in the Student Handbook.
