“Life is nothing if you are not obsessed”
RMCAD Presents an Evening with John Waters

Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design is proud to present An Evening with John Waters. The cult filmmaker will present his one-man vaudeville show based on his spoken word, “This Filthy World” in RMCAD’s Mary Harris Auditorium on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 7 pm. This event is free and open to the public; however, reservations are required. Reservations will be accepted online only, beginning on Monday, February 13, 2012. This event is a part of RMCAD’s Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer Program.

John Waters is a man of many monikers: The Prince of Puke, The Duke of Dirt, The Sultan of Sleaze. Any way you put it, John Waters is famed the world over for his trash epics including Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, Desperate Living, Polyester, Serial Mom, Pecker, Cecil B. Demented, and A Dirty Shame. Two of his more surprisingly commercial films have been adapted for the stage: Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards and Cry Baby - The Musical, nominated for four Tony Awards. In the summer of 2007, Hairspray reinvented itself cinematically as a big-budget Hollywood movie starring John Travolta that became a smash hit worldwide.

"This Filthy World" is Waters’ rapid-fire one-man spoken word "vaudeville" act that celebrates the film career and joyously appalling taste of the man William Burroughs once called "The Pope of Trash." Updated and expanded from the original film version that enjoyed critical success at the Edinburgh, Toronto and Berlin Film Festivals, the live performance of "This Filthy World" focuses on Waters’ early negative artistic influences, his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, the extremes of the art world, Catholicism, sexual deviancy and a love of reading.
