From immersive museums to eclectic eateries, we gathered our top five artist-inspired events and restaurants to check out in Denver.
Free Day at the Denver Art Museum
Are you looking for a romantic spot to take that special someone that won’t break the bank? The Denver Art Museum’s February 14 Free Day is the perfect place to bond over your shared love of art and design. With various exhibitions, there is something for everyone. For photography lovers, check out Other People’s Pictures. For those looking for pieces in the fine arts, take a look at Fantastic Brush. For anyone who is looking for inspiration and beauty in something as simple as a collection of chairs, we recommend By Design.
Valentine’s Day 4-Mile Race
Besides asking out that special someone, another way to get your heart racing is to attend the Valentine’s Day 4-mile Race in Washington Park. On Sunday, February 12, head over to Washington Park to heat up on a cold February day. Register here to get your official Valentine’s Day 4-mile race hoodie. Bring your partner or grab a couple of friends, but don’t forget to dress as your favorite couple from a show/book/movie. That way even if you finish last, you still might win a prize for the costume contest!
XOXO Series at the Alamo Drafthouse
Perfect for celebrating Galentine’s Day with the ladies, the Alamo Drafthouse is a unique theater chain known for its extensive menu and eclectic films. This year their XOXO series is coming to all three locations in the Denver Metro area, including Westminster, Littleton, and Sloans Lake (Just 2 miles east of the RMCAD campus straight down Colfax). The XOXO series includes Phantom of the Opera, Magic Mike the Last Dance, Brides, and Before Sunset & Before Sunrise double feature.
Spookadelia
Need an excuse to hide in someone’s arms? What about something scary to get the real-life terrors of Valentine’s off your mind? Well, then we have something for you! If you’re a fan of Meow Wolf or any of the other dozens of Immersive experiences coming through Denver, then you’ll have to check out Spookadelia. Just like its name might lead you to believe, Spookadelia is an eerie take on the format you know well. Not quite a haunted house, the artists involved in creating this experience said it was designed to reflect the human condition. As such you get to wander through the trippy and spooky visuals of the Spectra Art Space.
Dining Out
Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without a good meal and plenty of chocolate, but we recognize that the average college student is likely on a budget. So, here are a few restaurants that deliver on their price and atmosphere. For quality Argentine pastries perfect for both dinner and dessert, check out Maria Empanada on South Broadway. For a local spot, Gregorio’s Fine Mexican Food is just 1 mile west of the RMCAD campus on Wadsworth. For a high-quality Downtown ambiance, check out Rhein Haus Denver. Don’t let the chandeliers fool you, this spot which is just a two-block walk from Rocket Fizz Candy and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, and is an affordable German eatery perfect for anyone willing to spend just a little bit more.
