Summer Camp

June 25 - 29, 9am - 4pm

Ready to register for RMCAD Summer Camp?

RMCAD’s Summer Camp provides high school students with the opportunity to engage in a week-long workshop and create an original piece of art to add to their portfolio. Students can choose between two projects—a tunnel book or a creative self-portrait—to complete during the week of camp.

Tunnel Book

Self-examination and critical thinking are essential practices to learn as an artist. Students can explore this idea through the process of creating a tunnel book.

For this project, students will make artwork that requires sequentially ordered procedures and specified media to achieve intended results while exploring their ideas through visual-thinking and problem-solving skills in a sketchbook or journal.

By completing this project, students will learn how to:

  • Organize the structural elements of art to achieve artistic goals.
  • Identify, practice, develop ideas, and resolve challenges in the creative process.

Creative Self-Portrait

It’s important for students to begin to communicate in meaningful ways through their art. This project will introduce students to self-expression through the creation of an introspective and expressive self-portrait.

Students can choose to communicate something about them or highlight an aspect of their personality. By completing their self-portrait, students will:

  • Explore studies of foreshortening perspective of subject matter and observations of reflective surfaces.
  • Examine different aspects of expression that communicate through visual context and discover how to create emphasis on subject matter.
  • Learn how to organize the structural elements of art to achieve artistic goals.

The total camp cost is $250 per student, which includes supplies and a $100 non-refundable deposit. There are only 20 spots available, so register ASAP!
