Artsy activities you can’t miss this holiday season in Denver

If you love the holidays and the arts, you live in the right city! Denver is a true winter wonderland and art hub between Thanksgiving and the New Year. Whether watching the beloved Nutcracker Ballet or visiting the lights at the Denver Zoo, there is something for everyone to experience and enjoy. Take a closer look at a few holiday art events happening this season.

Performing arts
If you are a lover of performing arts and holiday classics, Denver has several theaters to visit. A Christmas Story is hitting the stage at The Miners Alley Playhouse in Golden, CO, which is a great way to have a good laugh. If you want to see something a little more serious, grab tickets to A Christmas Carol at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. For an elegant, formal evening, visit Ellie Caulkins Opera House to see Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet.

Gallery events and exhibits
Denver has no shortage of galleries, and we have found the best holiday themed events you don’t want to miss. The Santa Fe Art District is having their 35th Annual Holiday Show the entire month of December, where you can view their exhibition and even purchase art. For fans of immersive art experiences, grab some tickets to the Immersive Nutcracker, which allows you to walk around a wonderland with friends and family. If you are looking to do something a little fancier, the RiNo Art District will be serving Holiday Afternoon Tea on December 11 and 18 where you can enjoy some finger sandwiches and a warm drink while viewing their current vintage exhibition.

Holiday markets
If it is on your holiday to-do list to shop local, Denver has several holiday art markets with the perfect gifts for you and your loved ones. Be sure to check out the Cherry Creek Holiday Market and the Denver Bazaar to support other local artists. The 16th Street Mall Holiday Festival on December 10 is another great place to buy gifts while also enjoying great food and entertainment. We saved the best market for last, RMCAD is also hosting an Artist Alley on December 9, where the public and school community can support students who will be selling their artwork.

Festive light displays
The holiday season isn’t complete without some lights, and Denver is famous for being quite bright this time of year. A crowd favorite is Denver’s annual Parade of Lights happening on December 3, where you can see holiday themed floats, music and cultural displays. RMCAD will also be taking a group of students on a field trip to see Zoo Lights, where you can appreciate both the beautifully designed light displays and visit the animals. If you are more interested in botany, the Botanic Gardens also decks out their trees and sculptures with a light show called Blossoms of Light. These tickets are hard to get, so we recommend buying early.

We hope that you have a magical holiday season filled with joy and art! Make sure you keep an eye on the RMCAD events calendar to see how we are spreading the holiday cheer through our holiday art events.
