Learn more about RMCAD’s amazing faculty at this ongoing series. This week’s presenters are Matthew Harris (Fine Arts) and Tom Keefe (Liberal Arts).

And there will be free lunch!

ABOUT MATTHEW HARRIS
Matthew Harris received his MFA at the University of Colorado Boulder and is currently the Head of Fine Arts at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, CO. His sculptural artwork often questions the ways in which an individual gains social status. Wealth, physical appearance, and charming personality too often trump wisdom, compassion, and humility. Failure to gain the attention and approval we crave feeds our insecurities and drives us to try even harder. With the elaboration of social media, we are bombarded with even more opportunities to curate our public lives. His works frequently serve both as generalized portraits of human vulnerability and as self-portraits that question his own susceptibility to self-centered perspectives.

ABOUT TOM KEEFE
Tom Keefe was born in Wakefield and raised in nearby Peace Dale, Rhode Island. Tom attended Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia where he pursued a degree in history, completing an independent study on U.S. Government Policy toward Native Americans. Tom also earned the Lyndon Baines Johnson Award for Congressional Internships and worked at the U.S. House of Representatives.

Completing his Master’s in Diplomacy from Norwich University, Tom has focused his continuing research on genocide education, social justice, and comparative theology. His doctoral work centers around stakeholder understanding of educational and institutional mission. The common theme in Tom’s work is the process of identity construction and neo-tribal perceptions of history and religion.

Tom has taught History, Politics, and Religion at a variety of schools in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Colorado. Tom is also the author of the novel My Journey: A Life According to God, and the editor of a series of “This Day in” books on Peace, Genocide, Ireland, and Native America.

ABOUT THE FACULTY FOCUS SERIES
The Faculty Focus Series provides an opportunity to highlight and celebrate RMCAD faculty’s work and accomplishments as artists, researchers, and practitioners. Throughout this exciting and ongoing series, faculty members provide insight into their creative endeavors outside of the classroom and how those activities influence and energize their expertise and leadership within the RMCAD community.
