The Wayfinding Series presents a private tour and talk by artist Gary Staab at the Arvada Center. Gary will lead students and faculty through his solo exhibition and then share insights and advice about his accomplished professional career. A free shuttle to-and-from the event is available for students (seats are limited).

About the Exhibition

Second Nature
From the Arvada Center: “Paleo-artist Gary Staab is renowned for his accurate and life-size sculptures of dinosaurs and prehistoric life models that are centerpieces of natural history museum collections across the globe. This process-based exhibition blurs the lines of artist, scientist, researcher, and craftsman. Journey through Staab’s conception, research, scientific collaboration, models, molds, casting, and finishing as he creates full-scale recreations of some of Earth’s most mysterious and ancient species.”

About the Artist
Gary Staab produces natural history and prehistoric life sculpture for museums, publishing, and film. Gary graduated from Hastings College in 1989 with an emphasis in Art/Biology and interned at the Smithsonian Institution and the British Museum of Natural History. Gary’s work and eclectic studio demonstrate a flare and passion for natural forms both past and present. His sculptures embellish the halls of the Smithsonian, the British Museum of Natural History, the America Museum of Natural History, The BBC, and many others. His work has also been featured on the Discovery Channel, National Geographic Magazine, and Dorling Kindersley Publishers. He has been the recipient of the prestigious John Lanzendorf Paleoart award for sculpture presented by the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology/National Geographic 5 times.

He was employed by the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in Colorado as a sculptor, for 7 years Gary has worked the last 35 years as a freelance sculptor for such institutions as The National Geographic Society, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and the Miami Science Museum, among many others.
