The Wayfinding series presents the Senior Curatorial Assistant of Textile Art and Fashion at the Denver Art Museum, Jane Burke! Please be prepared to sign in with the RMCAD mobile app when you arrive.
About the Artist
Jane Burke contributes to the research and development of curatorial projects at the DAM, including exhibitions, publications, programming, acquisitions, and donor cultivation. Since arriving at DAM in December 2013, Burke has worked on several textile and fashion exhibitions including First Glance—Second Look, Creative Crossroads, Shock Wave: Japanese Fashion Design1980s-90s, Drawn to Glamour: Fashion Illustrations by Jim Howard, and Dior: From Paris to the World.
Burke obtained a bachelor’s degree in fine art with an emphasis on painting from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She received an interdisciplinary master’s degree in Asian art history and Chinese language from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Her master’s thesis focused on the interpretation of Chinese minority textiles in museums and private collections. While in Hawaii, she gained more than eight years of museum experience in multiple facets at both the Honolulu Academy of Arts and The Contemporary Museum, now known as the Honolulu Museum of Art. She curated gallery rotations and temporary exhibitions in the Asian art department and assisted in the coordination of major international traveling exhibitions, including The Dragon’s Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan, Shu: Reinventing Books in Chinese Contemporary Art and One Way or Another: Asian American Art Now.

The Wayfinding Series connects students to local creative professionals. With equal parts inspiration and honesty, speakers will share their path towards a successful creative life and all of the twists and turns involved in that journey. Addressing career-focused issues such as industry trends, relevant skills, making connections, and professional fulfillment, speakers will highlight that there is no one way to find and live a successful, creative career. Speakers will represent a variety of creative employment opportunities, connecting to multiple academic departments and revealing that professional creatives are found in diverse and sometimes surprising fields.
