Lucía Rodríguez was born and raised in Santiago, Chile in a family that encouraged her love for art. In 2009 she obtained her BFA at Universidad Católica de Chile. In 2014 she moved to NYC to pursue her MFA at the New York Academy of Art, graduating in 2016. Once she finished, Lucía moved to
Colorado with her husband and they founded JuiceBox as a DIY gallery and educational space. She also worked at the Denver Art Museum and taught at the Rocky Mountains College of Art + Design (RMCAD). In early 2020 Lucía and her husband moved back to NYC where she continues to develop her studio practice.

Lucía Rodríguez’s work focuses on the ambiguity of space and the seductiveness of color. She creates spaces that build a bridge between representation and abstraction and invites the viewer into a new reality. She believes in the importance of the experience of perception as an exercise to disconnect from our understanding of the world through language. Lucía’s main medium is color, as she thinks of her work as paintings, no matter the medium: painting, drawing, installation, etc. The artist finds inspiration in everyday patterns, textures, and spaces that she photographs or sketches and uses as references when creating her work.
