Sjón: A Solar System of Vision – An Exhibition by Moose Cain
November 14, 2022 – December 9, 2022
Rude Gallery

The word sjón in Icelandic translates in English to sight, though the pronunciation of sjón phonetically sounds like sun in English. This accurately represents my exhibition’s focus on vision and how world defining it is for an individual. My artwork depicts different visual irregularities and impairments, such as tritanopia and color blindness, synesthesia, and vertigo. Planets symbolize how vision creates your world and how different it could be if seen through different eyes.

Showing each irregularity or impairment illustrated as a celestial body, the goal is to have the viewer walk through a solar system of perspective planets all orbiting around the sjón. I aim for viewers to walk away from the exhibition with the understanding of how different vision and optics are for each individual.
