Interning With Local Politics

RMCAD student Melissa Altese is applying her graphic design skills towards local politics, with a recently-landed internship on the campaign for Lakewood mayoral candidate Adam Paul. Altese is working on print collateral to be distributed door-to-door and at events for the Adam Paul campaign.

While strengthening her ability to work side by side with clients as future freelance graphic designer, Altese says she’s “also learning a little bit about the campaign process and strengthening my skills with the Adobe systems. All of these are skills that I will use after I graduate as a graphic designer and having some prior experience working with clients will help me integrate into a professional environment more smoothly.”

Campaign manager Cassie Stenstrom is very excited to have Altese on board the campaign. “Melissa will be using the skills she has learned at RMCAD in the graphic design department to design our first literature piece that will be distributed to over ten thousand households by volunteers throughout the summer,” Stenstrom says.

Interns working on the campaign for Adam Paul are provided with great opportunities for advancing skills and developing their professional practice. Stenstrom shares that “Adam is committed to providing interns with an experience that centers around their strengths while allowing them to learn more about how local campaigns operate, project management and operating within a budget. The campaign is accepting interns that are interested in the political process, especially at the local level.”
