Matter's Ricks Griffith Hosts Experimental Typography Workshop At RMCAD

During the Spring 2014 semester, Rick Griffith, Design Director at the Denver design studio MATTER, hosted an experimental typography class for RMCAD graphic design students. The workshop challenged students to look deeper into their craft, push new ideas to the surface, and think critically about their own design style.

As a teacher, Griffith’s goal was not to teach students what to think, but instead how to think in a logical manner. Students explored language at a technical level to improve their work and grow as artists. The workshop proved to be challenging, thought provoking and beneficial for all who attended.

Griffith has been working in graphic design for 21 years. His projects and commercial works have been cited in several national and international resources including AIGA, Print, 365 and TDC. He teaches graphic design and typography for RMCAD, The University of Colorado, Denver and The University of Denver. He’s currently the Design Director and owner of the experimental type laboratory MATTER.
