New Facilities On Campus

RMCAD’s Commercial Photography department is proud to announce the completion of its new photography studio, Studio II. This expansion will provide a spacious workspace for students to produce relevant and robust work in the ever-evolving world of photography.

Aesthetically, the studio is designed as a photography loft with industrial details such as metal, pristine white walls, and exposed ductwork. Both daylight and strobe based, Studio II is 1200 square feet—featuring 26 foot ceilings, four 3×6 foot windows, and one 18×12 foot window. The window treatments allow for complete blackout capabilities—expanding the creative potential of the studio’s practical applications.

The studio is also equipped with Apple Cinema displays for tethered shooting, an array of Bowens Gemini Mono-lights, light stands, light modifiers, rolling studio carts, and work tables.

Even with the exciting new features of Studio II, Randy Brown, Chair of the Commercial Photography program, has plans to build upon the space’s functionality. “Phase two of the studio will include a full size glass garage door, which will allow large objects such as automobiles to be photographed,” Brown says. “Additionally, a cyc[lorama] cove infinity background and significant sound-proofing will be installed, allowing for video and sound projects to be completed.”

In addition to Studio II, RMCAD was recently donated a 3D printer from The Los Angeles Film School: The Zcorporation Zprinter 650. “We’re very excited to get this machine up to speed and serving student 3D prints as quickly as possible,” states John Melton, Director of IT Operations.

These new facilities are an exciting addition to campus that will help RMCAD students stay at the creative forefront with cutting-edge industry tools.
