President’s Update: Fall A 2021

Dear RMCAD students, faculty and staff,

The start of the semester has been a memorable and busy time for all of us. Whether you are with us for the first time, or have been with us for many years, it is always our pleasure to welcome you home.

In the last few weeks since returning to campus, we have recognized and awarded the work of our students at the 58th Annual Student Exhibition and our Annual Fashion Design Showcase. I am constantly in awe of the dedication our students, faculty, and staff have to the mastering of their skills.

Although many of our events have been moved to a hybrid model to promote a safer, healthier campus, you have still shown up to cheer each other on and celebrate the incredible work happening at our school. I hope in the coming weeks, you will continue to attend our events in a virtual or in-person setting to enjoy the camaraderie of a community of creatives such as yourselves.

Our incredible faculty and staff members are committed to putting our students first as we provide the highest quality of education and unique experiences to enhance our student’s creativity because ultimately, it is our students who inspire us to go above and beyond.

In fact, it is often our students who help us to go above and beyond! I would be remiss if I didn’t note our incredible online and on-campus student ambassadors who are here to support, guide, and lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it. Please join me in celebrating their accomplishments with a virtual round of applause. Although RMCAD offers many services to our students, I would like to highlight a few areas that truly provide for our students’ well-being, both academically and mentally.

New this year is “Palette” which will be officially opening at the beginning of the Fall B term and will be located on the first floor of the Texas Building. This is a resource center for campus students to provide them with one-stop, on-the-spot access to Financial Aid, Registrar, and Advising services. Our collective goal is to assist students with immediate support in tandem with partnering departments in order to enhance the student experience. I hope students will utilize this great resource!

I would also like to draw attention to our Health + Wellness Center which is available and free to all of our students to provide support with any challenges whether personal, professional, or academic. I’d like to recognize that the last year and a half has been full of turmoil, stress, and constant change. The dedicated team members at our Health + Wellness Center are always ready to help wherever and whenever someone may need it.

Alongside support for mental health and wellness, we also provide our Student Learning Center (SLC) where students, both on-campus and online, can receive academic support during their time here at RMCAD. Here you’ll find tips, tricks, and resources for the various subjects including writing, software, drawing, and everything in between.

The reason we are here is because of YOU. And, I want to thank YOU for being creative, contributing to our community, and dreaming of making a difference by using your talents to influence others through art or design.

Stay creative and finish this term strong!

Warmest regards,
Brent Fitch
