President’s Update: Summer A 2022

Greetings RMCAD Community,

When Philip J Steele started his pursuit to provide excellent art education, there were only a handful of students. Eventually, through hosting night courses and community classes on the weekends, his passion for art compelled him to continue to build a thriving community at RMCAD. Almost 60 years after our founding, we are proud of our history and even more so excited about our future and many of your recent accomplishments.

Most recently, we hosted the largest commencement ceremony in our history! On April 29, we celebrated our graduates from 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. During commencement, we heard from RMCAD alumnus, Paul Trani, an Evangelist at Adobe. He is living proof that creativity can translate into tangible success and stability; a fire we fuel here at RMCAD. We are excited to see where our most recent class of graduates go and the impact they make in the world.

As RMCAD celebrates over 10 years of practicing online education, our online student body continues to grow. More and more students choose to attend online and we are bridging the gap in our online and on-campus communities. We are dedicated to providing experiences and events that encourage engagement across student modalities so our creative community can thrive. RMCAD is a hub for imaginative minds no matter how you choose to study.

Whether you take classes online or in person, we want to provide you with the best experience possible. Part of making your experience the best it can be includes hearing from you and gathering your feedback through our annual survey. We are so grateful to those of you who took the time to participate in this. Our goal is to gather thoughts, highlight accomplishments, recognize those who you indicate as exceptional teachers, and work on institutional programming all with an eye toward progress. We will be highlighting our plans over the next few months. Stay tuned for further updates!

The art of community is the art of life, and, as such, is essential to our success as an institution. I encourage you to share your creative vision and discover your voice at RMCAD. Even further, I challenge you to leave your lasting mark on our community. What good can you create and share? What ideas can we nurture and grow together? With community and creativity, we can make anything possible. Phillip would be proud of how far you’ve come and your accomplishments.

Stay creative,
Brent Fitch
RMCAD President
