Colorado’s only art college takes a proactive approach in preparation for fall classes

LAKEWOOD, Colo., – As colleges around the country are making accommodations for their students in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) continues to excel in preparation for the fall term.

RMCAD’s blended-learning model has been helping the next generation of young artists for more than a decade, providing students with the tools and technology they need to exceed in their e-classrooms. The institution is one of the few colleges in the country to be accredited by NASAD for offering art and design degrees online. While some programs, such as Fine Arts, require more hands-on training, RMCAD is allowing individual students to access those resources per their schedules at the start of the Fall A term as part of RMCAD’s Blended+ experience. Some of the resources that students can access on-campus are creative labs, studio space, photography darkrooms, technical resources and study areas.

President Brent Fitch recognizes that students need to feel safe first before accessing specific facilities on-campus. “Part of providing a quality education and college experience is assuring that our community members feel safe. We have installed plexiglass, added temperature kiosks and increased our staffing so each classroom and resource gets a deep clean after it’s been used. While we continue to navigate this fluid situation, those are just a few of the improvements we have made as we prepare for fall,” Fitch said.

In order to maintain complete transparency, the college right outside of Denver has conducted several surveys and live Q&As with its students, staff and faculty to hear and address their concerns. In addition to safety and access to campus resources, the next area of focus for the college is cost. Returning on-campus students, as well as new incoming students, have been given a tuition break per semester since RMCAD made the transition.

Every adjustment the college has made is driven by the RMCAD COVID-19 Task Force committee. The college will continue to abide by local, state and federal guidelines while preparing for the upcoming school year. Click here to follow RMCAD’s ongoing updates.
