The Best Summer Field Trips in Denver for Exploring Art

We know you live and breathe art, so this summer we invite you to expand your art learning outside of the classroom. Exploring Denver on the weekend or between your summer classes can be just as mentally stimulating as your courses themselves. With RMCAD being so close to the city and its surrounding areas, there are hours and hours of art related entertainment nearby. Expand your education with these artistic outings this summer!

Performing Arts
If you love musical theater, make sure to check out the Denver Center for Performing Arts to get tickets to this summer’s plays. While the downtown theaters are glamorous, they can also be a little pricey, so consider seeing plays at the Arvada Center instead, which can be a more affordable option. If you are looking to laugh, check out Comedy Works Denver with multiple locations and well-known comedians touring both weeknights and weekends. We promise you will be laughing until your sides hurt.

Music Scene
When it comes to music, Denver has everything you could imagine. In almost every neighborhood, you can find both small and large concert venues. From rock, to pop, to bluegrass, you can find your ideal genre. You may also even get lucky and be able to get tickets the day of a show! Red Rocks, the breathtaking and world renowned concert venue, is a little trickier with tickets, so make sure to get these a couple months in advance. The Colorado Symphony is a favorite for classical music lovers, and also offers discount tickets to students!

Art Districts
Colorado doesn’t just have one art district…it has eight! Denver’s art districts are streets, blocks or locations that are devoted to artistic businesses and experiences. Check out this calendar to make sure you never miss a festival or event in these artsy neighborhoods. You can also visit any day of the week to explore the galleries, buy art or take pictures in front of the many gorgeous murals.

Art Fairs
Support other local artists by purchasing their work! Visit Horseshoe, a pop-up craft and flea market, or the Denver Bazaar, a craft marketplace, to purchase presents, trinkets, jewelry and incredible pieces of art. There are lots of pop-up craft fairs in and around Denver, so keep your eyes open, scroll social media or read the local news to find these hidden gems!

Art Museums
Take a field trip to the famous Meow Wolf museum and gallery if you are interested in experimental and experiential art. RMCAD professors have their art featured at this brand new attraction, so make sure you look for their work while you are there. The newly expanded Denver Art Museum has one of the largest Native American art collections in the world and the largest collection of Latin American art from 1600-1800 in the US. If you are interested in historical art, then this is the field trip for you. Another great museum is The Denver Museum of Contemporary Art. It is located in the LoDo neighborhood and showcases art from the late 20th century and early 21st century.

We are so excited that you will be on campus for the summer! We hope that you make room for a few of these great experiences between your summer classes. For more information about the summer happenings at RMCAD, stay up to date on our events calendar and social media!
