What RMCAD’s COVID-19 Response Means for Staff: FAQ’s
With the global public health situation surrounding COVID-19, RMCAD has taken proactive measures to limit the risk of exposure. There are no confirmed cases on our campus at this time. As of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, both the RMCAD campus and Florida offices will be closed to everyone and all staff members will work remotely. As with any change in modality, there may be discomfort before settling into a new work environment. Our hope is to provide answers to questions that staff have about the transition, along with resources and points of contact to help you through this time.
How can I transition my on-campus work environment to a remote setting?
On Wednesday, March 18, you will be expected to gather any materials that you need from your office and leave campus at 2 p.m. The remainder of the day should be spent creating a designated home workspace and making sure that you have necessary supplies and equipment to maintain your usual level of effectives.
What if I want to take equipment from campus to my home office?
If you have equipment that you would like to take home, there is a process in place for equipment loans. Contact John Melton to coordinate a loan.
How can I make sure that I am technologically prepared?
Tech Prep Workshops will be held at 8:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18 both on campus and remotely through Zoom Meeting. Google Calendar invitations will be sent to your email. Please attend one of these meetings if you have questions about remote tech.
What are ways to stay successful in a remote workplace?
Essentially, nothing about the work that you do should change. However, the way you do our work will need to adjust. Here are some tips:
- Communicate, communicate, communicate!
- Continue to have meetings as usual, and try to host video meetings when possible. Face-to-face interaction is important to maintain and will help prevent feelings of isolation. Use Google Meets (recommended), Zoom, or GotoMeeting.
- Designate a specific workspace in your home.
- Maintain morning and evening routines to replace your commute that serve to set you up for the day and unwind when the day is over.
- Be mindful of security, especially if you deal with sensitive student information.
What if I have a technology issue?
Submitting a support ticket is still the best way to resolve issues with technology.
What if I do not feel comfortable about completing my duties as usual?
If you have concerns about productivity in a remote setting, please contact your manager directly.
What if something comes up and I need to get on campus?
You will need advanced permission to access the campus. Contact Chris Spohn and Randy Brown to request access.
Will the front desk still be operating?
The front desk will remain operational to take incoming calls and accept packages. However, no visitors will be allowed on campus without advanced permission.
How can I continue to communicate with students?
You will need to set up call forwarding to continue taking calls made to your office number. Outgoing calls can be made using your personal phone if desired, or you may use *67 to keep your number private. It is important to let students know in advance if your call will be coming from a private number so that they know to answer.
