Find inspiration for your career. For art. For life.
YOUR NEW HOME.
Our incredible campus marries the historic charm of the past with the sustainable, technological advancements of the future. Set on 23 acres of pristinely manicured grounds, the RMCAD campus has the prestigious designation of National Historic District, thanks to its rich history and its commitment to preservation and continuous renewal. Currently, the campus boasts 17 structures, 11 of which are devoted to classrooms, common areas, and other support spaces, including four galleries and ample studio spaces. Explore the halls of history.
Over a century ago, the Jewish Consumptive Relief Society founded a safe haven for tuberculosis patients right here in Lakewood (formerly Spivak), Colorado. The self-sustaining medical campus grew to occupy over 148 acres and 34 buildings—but by the 1950s, as the instance of TB declined, the institution changed its focus and eventually closed. When we had the opportunity to purchase this incredible and historically significant property in 2002, we jumped on it—and through careful preservation efforts, today these buildings house our beautiful art and design school. Share your art with the world.
We continually rotate RMCAD’s four on-campus gallery spaces with the works of students, alumni, and professional artists, exposing the community to a wide range of styles, concepts, and media year-round. The Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer Program brings the most prominent leaders to campus for lectures and interactive workshops, while the Institute for Experimental Studies collaborates across academic departments to develop new courses with diverse approaches to art and design. Knowledge is Power
Boasting over 14,000 titles in a highly focused collection, as well as subscriptions to over 100 art-related magazines and journals, the RMCAD Library strives to offer everything students need to be successful in their studies. Open daily, the facility provides access to over 100,000 digital images of contemporary and classical artwork via web-based databases; a vast collection of art films and DVDs; cooperative borrowing agreements with nearby libraries; and a cutting-edge web site with 24/7 access to all the info you need.
Student Learning Center
The support you need to succeed.
College courses can be challenging, which is why we developed the Student Learning Center, an exceptional academic resource that offers assistance across departments. Trained peer tutors are available throughout the year, by appointment or online, to help with writing; math; computer programs, such as Photoshop and Illustrator; and success strategies, such as time management. All services are free for RMCAD students, including complimentary access to Lynda.com—a 24/7 professional resource boasting over 50,000 web-based tutorials.
The tools you need. A price you'll love.
Tucked just inside the north entrance of the Texas building, the Supply Store is your one-stop shop for everything from art supplies to RMCAD-branded merchandise. Beyond the usual canvas products, sketchpads, paints, and collegiate apparel, students can cash in on huge savings when buying computer software, including new releases from Adobe, Microsoft, and more. The Supply Store also stocks a variety of digital equipment, from digital drawing tablets to electronic storage devices, all at a significant student discount.
Building the future. Restoring the past.
RMCAD is rooted in history, but with that comes a responsibility for preservation that looks not only backward, but forward to a sustainable future. We believe that environmental responsibility provides the foundation for a better tomorrow, and we back that up with memberships in the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education; and a STARS Bronze Rating.
High tech. No charge.
RMCAD is proud to offer a full-service technical support center, available to enrolled students of every level and concentration. Open during campus hours, the TECHBAR is an excellent student resource, staffed with a team of technology experts who are at the ready to help you select the best software for your classes; learn about available upgrades; troubleshoot issues with your existing computers and devices; and even check out a variety of equipment for your projects, from digital cameras to light kits, for free.
