When form and function come together in perfect symmetry, they transform an environment into a place that instills a deep sense of harmony for its inhabitants.
As a student in the Interior Design Program, you’ll receive one-on-one attention from instructors who are highly qualified working industry professionals. They’ll teach you the essential elements of interior design including drafting, proper selection of furniture, fixtures and equipment, construction document implementation, and much more. Working with students from all walks of life will give you the benefit of a myriad of different perspectives to build your work as an artist.
You’ll graduate confident in the skills you’ve acquired and prepared to successfully enter the field of Interior Design.
Students understand the physical, psychological, cultural and social considerations of designing hospitality projects, including lobbies, restaurants and retail using collaborative approaches and research methods.
Students understand interior construction and its interrelationship with base building construction and systems.
Students use CAD systems as a drafting/design tool for interior design. Areas of study include CAD systems (hardware, software, procedures, and standards) and terminology as applied to architectural drawing types.
Upon successful completion, students will have acquired the necessary manual drafting skills and understanding of drawing conventions to apply to future studies in interior design.
Students apply the principles of acoustics, thermal comfort, indoor air quality and water and waste management in relation to environmental impact and human well-being.
Students will learn how to plan common residential and commercial spaces with considerations for physical and psychological factors, spatial relationships, functionality, safety, accessibility and specific needs.
Students apply the principles and theories of light and color effectively in relation to environmental impact and human wellbeing.
The Liberal Arts curriculum is an exciting part of every student’s academic and creative journey at RMCAD. These courses provide the opportunity for students to engage with complex questions and ideas to develop critical thinking skills, a global consciousness, and awareness of art historical foundations that are essential for their intellectual, creative, and personal growth.

RMCAD’s Interior Design Bachelor’s Degree curriculum encompasses a variety of disciplines that include elements of architecture, environmental design, graphic design, and industrial design to give students a broad base of knowledge to draw upon.
* RMCAD offers classes year-round in both on-campus and online delivery formats. At RMCAD, we believe that online learning is an important part of the overall college learning experience. To provide students multiple scheduling options, diverse learning modalities, and experience in the virtual environment, all on-campus students are required to take part in online education.

RMCAD’s Interior Design classes are structured to cumulatively increase in difficulty as the courses progress, in order to help students accumulate the skills necessary to successfully build beautiful, functional spaces.
