Rebecka Black, Ph.D.

Becky is an art history educator who holds a Ph.D. in Art History and Education from The University of Arizona. She is a generalist whose art historical research focuses on issues of power and identity in British commissioned depictions of World War I, World War II and the Holocaust. Her research in art education also focuses on issues of power and identity in pedagogical practice and student engagement in undergraduate art history courses, particularly related to community building through socially engaged pedagogy. Her work has been published in art education and interdisciplinary journals, and she has presented her research with CAA, NAEA, and internationally at the Center for the Study of the Two World Wars at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and at the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Quebec City, Quebec. Becky has taught art history, art education, and art appreciation courses since 2013 and has extensive museum experience, working with the Menil Collection, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Jewish History Museum and Holocaust History Center in Tucson, Arizona, and Historic Denver’s Molly Brown House Museum. Becky has served on the editorial board for the International Journal of Lifelong Learning in Art Education since 2017, and she currently serves on the editorial board of Art Education, the official journal of the National Art Education Association.
