ABOUT SCOTT WAKEFIELD
Scott J. Wakefield graduated from Art Center College of Design in 2003. Since that time, he has worked as a freelance illustrator in children’s book illustration, serving national publishers such as Harper Collins, Sterling Publishing, Scholastic, and McGraw Hill. Scott is currently represented at the national level by Shannon & Associates (Kidshannon.com). His portfolio can also be found at www.scottjwakefield.com.
Although versatile with nearly any medium, much of Scott’s work is done in traditional media such as oil paint, ink, pastels, and acrylic, bringing richness and nostalgia to his unique style. Scott’s work demonstrates engaging characters, effective storytelling, and a strong sense of life and light.
He completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at Utah State University in 2009. For the past six years, Scott has served the Community College of Aurora (Colorado) as the Chair of Art and Design, and then the Chair of Arts and Communication (Art, Music, Theatre, and Communication). He has taught foundation level courses in drawing, painting, and creative thinking.
Always an engaging teacher and a “student of the creative process,” Scott has found opportunities to teach about design thinking, creativity, and leadership in elementary schools, high schools, and colleges, and to various leadership groups, academic leaders, regional associations, and national conferences.
At home, Scott and his wife Kori enjoy the unique personalities of their five children, serving in their church, and family activities such as sidewalk chalk art and rock climbing.
ABOUT SEAN BROWN
Sean Brown is a problem solver and a technical artist. His interest in art was first sparked by traditional media. He also excelled in many topics, from science and math, to art and music. Upon graduating from high school, he had no idea what to do.
That all changed when he saw Beast Wars Transformers and Toy Story. Sean enrolled at the Art Institute and earned a bachelor degree in Animation. He then pursued his MFA in Animation and Visual Effects from the Academy of Art University and has since completed a MA in Instructional Design. Sean is also currently working on a BFA in Photography.
Because Sean had spent his entire life in Colorado (it’s the best state), he decided to not take the Hollywood route in his career. Instead, he has spent the past 20 years working on a variety of projects, including commercials, website design, branding, architectural and mechanical visualization, and independent games.
ABOUT THE FACULTY FOCUS SERIES
The Faculty Focus Series provides an opportunity to highlight and celebrate RMCAD faculty’s work and accomplishments as artists, researchers, and practitioners. Throughout this exciting and ongoing series, faculty members provide insight into their creative endeavors outside of the classroom and how those activities influence and energize their expertise and leadership within the RMCAD community.
