Rebecka Black, Ph.D.

Becky holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Houston-Downtown, a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of Houston, and a PhD in Art History and Education from the University of Arizona. She is also a graduate of the National Art Education Association’s School for Art Leaders. Becky’s research centers on undergraduate art history pedagogy, socially engaged art history, and visual culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Becky has been invited to present her research nationally with College Art Association, National Art Education Association, SECAC, and Midwest Art History Society. She has also presented her research internationally at The Centre for the Study of the Two World Wars at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland as well with The Paragone Society at The Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec in Quebec City. Becky’s work has also been published with Teachers College Press at Columbia University, Humanities Education Research Association, and National Art Education Association, where Becky also serves on the Editorial Review Board. Becky’s museum and gallery experience includes a 2017 Fellowship in Learning & Interpretation with Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, her role as an Education Instructor at NASA’s Manned Space Flight Education Center, and Visual Arts & Community Programs Coordinator for Texarkana Regional Arts & Humanities Council.

Since 2019 Becky has served as a research and public talks volunteer with Historic Denver’s The Molly Brown House. Becky’s recent research and public speaking have focused on the historic campus RMCAD occupies, which is an historic landmark still celebrated for its place as a tuberculosis sanatorium in the early 20th century.
