Whether you are looking to positively impact the next generation of artists and storytellers, or design the curriculum behind it, a degree in art education is certainly a career path filled with rewarding opportunities. From art teachers to museum educators, we compiled a list of a few of the many careers you can pursue with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from RMCAD.

Art Teacher
Becoming an art teacher is a common career path for many art education majors at RMCAD. According to CareerExplorer, “art teachers educate their students about the creation of art, art history, as well as art theory.” Because observation hours are built into the curriculum at RMCAD, students will receive hands-on K-12 experience in real art classrooms. Curriculum Designer
For students looking to work behind the scenes in education, a career as a curriculum designer is a great opportunity to pursue. As indicated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), curriculum designers, also known as instructional coordinators, have an impressive job growth rate of 7% through 2031. Whether you choose to work with teachers or organizations, you will use your skills to create robust art education curriculums and ensure they are implemented successfully throughout the year.

Art Director
Although many students choose to pursue a career directly in education, there are plenty of industries that find value in candidates with a degree in art education. According to the BLS, “art directors are responsible for the visual style and images in magazines, newspapers, product packaging, and movie and television productions.” Additionally, many art directors freelance to gain a variety of industry experience and skills.

Art Therapist
According to the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB), “Art therapy uses art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork as a therapeutic and healing process. Art therapy is an effective treatment for persons experiencing developmental, medical, educational, social or psychological impairment.” This career path requires a master’s degree following your bachelor’s in art education. For art education students looking for professions outside the classroom, a career as a museum educator might be the perfect fit. From creating public programs and educational content to hosting lectures and workshops, museum educators are tasked with teaching museumgoers about new exhibitions, artifacts, and the history behind the institution. Additionally, becoming a museum educator will allow you to network with curators, gallery owners, and like-minded artists in your community.
