Five ways you can celebrate Pride Month in Denver
It’s June which means Pride Month has begun! This year’s theme “Together with Pride” not only encourages us to come together to celebrate with our family and friends, but also represents the first fully in-person Denver Pride since the start of COVID-19. Grab your friends and fellow classmates and participate in these colorful festivities around Denver and online.
1. Participate in PrideFest!
Mark your calendars for Denver PrideFest happening June 25-26. This remarkable two-day festival in the heart of downtown Denver kicks off with the Pride 5K race. This run benefits The Center on Colfax and its mission to support Colorado’s LGBTQ+ community. To learn more or to register, please visit here. The festival continues onward to Civic Center Park with more than 250 exhibitors, 30 food/drink vendors and several live performers. On Sunday, June 26, don’t miss the 2022 Coors Light Denver Pride Parade, starting at 9:30 a.m. MST on Colfax Avenue. To learn more, check out Denver Pride for more details.
2. Visit a new art exhibition.
If you are interested in checking out a new exhibition, we recommend visiting the Denver Museum of Art (DAM)’s newest community artwork addition, “Queer Creativity Through the Ages: Artwork from The Center on Colfax Open Art Studio,” which opens June 24. For more local art exhibitions and openings, follow along with MCA Denver, Denver’s Art Districts or check out our blog – The Best Summer Field Trips in Denver for Exploring Art.
3. Attend a fashion show.
For those looking for a runway ready event, don’t miss Denver Arts & Venues Fashion Runway Series, which continues on June 11 with PRIDE at 7 p.m. MST at the McNichols Civic Center Building. Be sure to get there early to check out a few exhibitions also featured at the venue, including fashion designs from DCR Studios. DeMarcio Slaughter will be the emcee for the night along with guest performances by RuPaul Drag Race All Stars – Yara Sofia and Mayhem Miller.
4. Watch a musical.
There’s still time to catch Unbreakable, A New Musical by Broadway’s Andrew Lippa performed by the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus at the King Center. This musical takes you through a chronological journey of more than 120 years of LGBTQ+ history. The final performances take place on Saturday, June 11 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. MST. A livestream viewing is also available.
5. Enter the RMCAD App Giveaway!
Last but not least, be sure to participate in RMCAD’s App Giveaway in celebration of pride! You can enter the contest by logging into the RMCAD app and sharing a pride related post using #WITHPRIDE from June 21 through June 30. Each post counts as its own entry, so the more you post, the better your odds are to win the giveaway. This is a great opportunity to share your art, show support as an ally, post your favorite pride outfit or anything under the rainbow.
