10:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. MST
Join us for one of our largest civic engagement events of the year and kick start the fall semester by lending a helping hand to those around you! We will be hosting five different service projects simultaneously in and around Denver. We will be meeting on campus and carpooling to the projects.
Please read the descriptions below and register for the service project you’d like to participate in. If the project you’d like to do is full, please register for the next available activity or email Mel at mkern@rmcad.edu to be added to the waitlist.
Habitat for Humanity
On your volunteer day, we will greet you for sign in several minutes before the scheduled start time for the day. Then, a staff member will provide a short overview of Habitat and a safety orientation. Please note that safety is very important to us and your presence at the safety orientation is mandatory.
After orientation, supervisors will break the group into smaller teams, if necessary, and they will teach everyone the tasks for the day. If there is ever anything you are asked to do that you are uncomfortable with, the supervisor will be happy to help you get comfortable with the task or find another task for you.
If you sign up for this activity, please register with Habitat and our group here as well: http://rmcad.denver.volunteerhub.com/
PawsCo Intake – Paint a Pup
PawsCo is a local rescue and non-profit that is also a strong partner with RMCAD. At their HQ, you will have the opportunity to take photos, sketch and draw the animals that are there during their intake. Your pieces will be donated to PawsCo for their upcoming auction at their Wags and Whiskers event, or will be given to the adoption families that take these guys home. If you’re a pet person and love animals, this could be a great opportunity for you!
Some materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite mediums (colored pencils, pens, conte, pastels, water color, and digital painting all accepted – no oils please).
Group Project at Applewood – Adopt a Grandparent
Join us at Applewood Senior Living Community and adopt a grandparent for the day! We’ve been working with Applewood for the last few months to offer art classes and activities for their residents. For this project, you will have the opportunity to meet the residents, take photos and spend the day painting portraits. If you love live drawing, sketching, or even digital painting, then this project is for you!
Once you register, you will be sent a list of participants and their bios. This is a great opportunity to share your work and make someone’s day with the gift of art. They are all very excited to meet you and look forward to seeing what you create!

Denver Parks and Recreation – Mulching the Park
Denver Parks & Recreation (DPR) offers volunteer projects throughout the year, giving groups, individuals and businesses the opportunity to help keep their park and community beautiful. Join us on our RMCAD Day of Service to give the trees at Barnum Park a little bit of love by mulching and getting them ready to brave the winter months. A perfect project if you love being outside!
Putting the Gardens to Bed at Creekside
Next door to campus is the Residences at Creekside, a senior living community. The residents here are SERIOUS about their gardening – it’s awesome! They are looking for some help with specific projects. If you’ve got a green thumb or like to be outside, this is the project for you!
