About the Exhibition
London-based video artist Sophie Clements presents Attempting to Delay the Inevitable in the Philip J. Steele Gallery. The exhibition represents a major body of work that documents Clements’ ongoing interest in the observation of a point of change or transformation. Using elemental materials and complex filming systems in combination with the poetics of chance and motion, Clements assembles ephemeral moments to create dynamic temporal sculptures that explore the futility of our human tendency to attempt to prevent or delay moments of change or disintegration. Attempting to Delay the Inevitable will be unveiled in conjunction with Clements’ lecture for the Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer Program in RMCAD’s Mary Harris Auditorium on January 16, 2018.
