About the Event

In partnership with the Lighthouse Writers Workshop, the VASD Program is proud to present poet, author, and editor Kevin Young in conversation with journalist Tina Griego. Young will read from his recent book, Bunk: The Rise of Hoaxes, Humbug, Plagiarists, Phonies, Post-Facts, and Fake News and sit down with Griego for an in-depth conversation about the intersection of fact, fiction, and art. Young’s books will be for sale at the event and the artist will be present for a short book signing following the conversation.

About Kevin Young

Young is the Director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and is the poetry editor at The New Yorker. He has authored, edited, and curated multiple books of poetry, essays, and nonfiction. Young is an American Academy of Arts and Sciences inductee and winner of a Stegner Fellowship in Poetry at Stanford University, a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, and a MacDowell Colony Fellowship, among others.

About Tina Griego

Tina Griego is a longtime journalist and has written for The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The Rocky Mountain News, The Denver Post, and the Albuquerque Tribune, and is currently the managing editor of The Colorado Independent. Her coverage of Indian Country, immigration, and education has won national and statewide recognition.

This intimate gathering provides an opportunity to further discuss the ideas presented in the previous night’s event and a place to further engage with our special guest.

Kevin Young will conduct a special Craft Talk at Lighthouse Writers Workshop.

There are a limited number of free spaces available for RMCAD students. This event is also open to the public and public registration can be found at lighthousewriters.org

To reserve a spot for this special opportunity RMCAD students are required to submit their application by Friday, March 8, 2019. The VASD Program Committee will review submissions and selected students will be notified by Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
