Transferring to a new school can be really nerve-racking, that’s why we try to make the transfer process as easy as possible. It is so important to feel like you belong as a new student, so we spoke with interior design student Aubrey Davis about her experience transferring to RMCAD. We hope Aubrey’s tips can help make your transfer to RMCAD as smooth as possible!
Can you tell us about yourself and your journey to RMCAD?
I am a sophomore online student, but this is my first year at RMCAD, and I’m studying interior design with a focus in sustainability. I decided that I was going to transfer after I finished my first year at my previous university. It was always a dream of mine to own an interior design business, so my initial intention was to study business and minor in interior design. However, when I learned that my original plan wouldn’t work at my first school, I was heartbroken. While doing research on art schools, I found RMCAD and immediately got in touch with admissions and decided this was the school for me. RMCAD was on top of everything during the transfer process and I got along with my admissions counselor right away. We would have weekly check-ins to make sure everything was working smoothly. I finished the whole process in about a month with no added stress.
What is your favorite part about being a new RMCAD student?
My favorite part about being a new transfer student is that I never feel alone. Since I am an online student, I thought I would feel secluded and not connected with people, but since starting, I regularly connect with my classmates. In most classes, we do weekly discussions on all kinds of topics, so I learn a lot about my classmates and their adventures.
How did the RMCAD admissions team help with your transfer? What advice would you give to future transfer students?
The admissions team was great. They were extremely patient and would simply request the documents and information they needed, but allow me plenty of time to get it. They handled all of the beginning steps of the transfer process and once it became time to talk about the financial end of things, they connected me with a financial advisor. The financial advisor already had all of the information about my transfer, so I never had to repeat anything. Everyone says that transferring is stressful and a lot of work, but since I went through it, I can easily disagree.
What surprised you about RMCAD when you first transferred? What sets RMCAD apart?
RMCAD is such a unique school. The thing that I was very surprised about when I was going through the transfer process is that RMCAD has eight week long terms instead of semesters. I wasn’t sure how I was going to transition into this new schedule, but now that I am two terms in, I can say that I love it. There is the same amount of work that you would have at any other school, but only eight weeks instead of sixteen straight. At RMCAD, you also only have to take two classes per term to be a full time student, compared to other colleges, where you take four classes each semester. This is what sets it apart from the typical college schedule.
